I’m afraid the details didn’t really sink in, but I think it was mainly about unsightliness, caused by the huge increase in numbers of parked cars. I think in the end they had to move the bulk of the parking space further away.

Not such a good family tradition. When we went to The Vatican it was all behind scaffolding as was The Sorbonne (which I really wanted to see as my Grandmother went to finishing school there).
There were plenty of people Catherine, just not on the sand luckily. But we made an effort to get there early to avoid the biggest crowds which paid off as it was much more crowded when we left than it had been first thing in the morning.
We tend to make it a family tradition to visit amazing sites under renovation, luckily this time it didn’t really ruin the photos too much. I bet plenty of people fell for the poisson d’avril! It’s not a bad one.
They certainly are Richard. La Mère Poulard restaurant has at least 2 locations now – the first one is just inside the gate – and manages to charge a staggering 49€ for a smoked salmon omelette! I don’t know about the parking dispute but it seems pretty well managed now. There are huge car parks before the causeway from where you can take a free shuttle bus, walk (50 mins) or a 5€ horse and cart. I don’t know how crazy it must be in high season but on the day we visited I thought it was managed well considered the visitor numbers. The buses even have wooden side panels so they blend into the landscape more when driving along the causeway. What was the dispute?
Are the M St M ladies still beating up their omelettes as you walk up the main street? And how is the Great Carparking Dispute going? Perhaps they’ve resolved it?

I can’t believe you were just over an hour from us when we were in fact away in the UK. I love Mont St Michel and most of our guests visit during their stay here. I see there is some work being done on the gold statue which Normandy Tourism then used to run their April Fool – they said that in honour of the 950th anniversary of The Battle Of Hastings St Michel was being replaced by Guillame le Conquerant. I am not sure anyone fell for it!
