The European regulation No. 2016/679 of 27 April 2016, or General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), came into force on 25 May 2018. This is a European wide law and as such affects how we use and store information we receive from guests and enquirers. It covers all data, whether electronic or paper based.
Lou Messugo may change this policy occasionally and without notice by updating this page. You should check this page from time to time to ensure that you are happy with any changes. This policy is effective from 25 May 2018.
What Data We Gather
We may collect the following information via our booking forms:
- The name and home address of the lead member of the group
- The names of all other members in the group
- The children’s ages
- The email address of the lead member of the group
- Home and mobile phone numbers of the lead member of the group
- Permission to be added to our email/newsletter mailing list via a tick box. If you do not tick this box we will only contact you with regard to arranging your holiday with us and will not contact you for any other purposes.
We may collect the following information via Website Analytics:
- The date and time of your visit to the site
- The pages, files, documents and links that you visit
- The internet address of the website from which you linked to our site (i.e. the previous site you visited before you came to us)
We collect the following information when a person comments on our blog:
- The name of the person commenting (or their alias)
- Their email address
- Their IP address
We only use this information to send out a newsletter if the person has also subscribed to the blog, otherwise we do not use it for any reason.
What We Do With The Information We Gather
We gather and use certain information about individuals in order to provide products and services i.e. holidays at Lou Messugo.
We require the booking form information to understand your needs and provide you with a better service and for internal record keeping and accounting.
We may periodically send promotional emails about special offers or other information which we think you may find interesting using the email address which you have provided. This will only be sent if you have signed up to our newsletter.
We may use the information available to us on Google Analytics to better understand how visitors use our website.
On arrival at Lou Messugo non-French guests are legally required to complete the Fiche Individuelle de Police, a registration form for all foreign visitors to France, which we have to keep for 6 months from date of arrival. Only the local police can ask for the details on this form. After the 6 months this form and the information contained on it are destroyed by us.
We are committed to ensuring that your information is secure. In order to prevent unauthorised access or disclosure, we have put in place suitable physical, electronic and managerial procedures to safeguard and secure the information we collect online.
We will never lease, distribute or sell your personal information to third parties unless the law requires us to.
Any personal information we hold about you is stored and processed under our data protection policy, in line with local laws.
Access To Your Information

The Right To Be Forgotten
All individuals have the right to ask us to remove their details from our records. However, this does not override local (French) legislative requirements (eg the Fiche Individuelle de Police – see above).
We are also required by law to keep financial records for 7 years, so guests cannot ask to be erased from these financial records within that timeframe.
Any individual has the right to complain to the ICO (Information Commissioner’s Office) if you think there is a problem with the way we are handling your data.

Notification Of Data Breaches
The GDPR requires us to notify the Information Commissioner’s’ Office within 72 hours of first having become aware of a breach where that breach is likely to “result in a risk for the rights and freedoms of individuals”. For any breach, we are required to notify the customers “without undue delay” after first becoming aware of a data breach.
