All About France #36

Posted by on in All About France linky

Here we are, it's 1st of March and there's snow on the ground in the South of France.  It's mad!  To divert my mind away from the crazy weather for a while I'm hoping to read lots of wonderful posts about France here at the 36th #AllAboutFrance.  Surely that makes three years of linking up! And that in turn means a fair few blog posts about France, 1,260 (to be exact), have been linked up on this blog and another 43 on Oui in France when Diane kindly hosted for me.

Snow on the Côte d'Azur

Posted by on in Lou Messugo

We've had snow on the Côte d'Azur this week.  It's such a rare occurrence that I felt it justified a photo reportage direct from the garden at Lou Messugo; very few words...the pictures speak for themselves.

Carnival - two very different celebrations

Posted by on in World Travel

In many parts of the world around this time of the year carnival in some form or other is taking place and here I'm going to tell you about two very different carnival celebrations.  Originally associated with a big blow out before the restrictions of Lent, depending on the location carnival nowadays isn’t necessarily on during the days just before lent but usually takes place sometime in February-March.  Of course many carnivals do take place in the few days leading up to Lent, but some, like the notorious Notting Hill carnival in London, happen at a completely different time of the year.  Our local carnival on the Côte d’Azur, Carnaval de Nice, lasts just over two weeks and is timed to coordinate with the winter school holidays optimising visitor numbers to the max.  It is in full flow now.

All About France #35

Posted by on in All About France linky

Welcome back to #AllAboutFrance after a rather long festive break.  I hope everybody's had a great Christmas and New Year, both of which seem a very long time ago now.  Officially, however, the Christmas season in Provence ends tomorrow with Chandeleur, the French pancake day; yet another excuse to eat too much!
